Executive Retreat and Dreams for the Club

The LMVC Board and executive committee members met on May 24 for an Executive Retreat to address visioning and forward planning for the Club. We are excited to share with you some of what was addressed at that retreat.

We started the retreat with a collaborative session aimed at the development of a working mission statement for the club looking at what kind of organization we are, who we serve and what service we provide. This was a powerful session that helped us as a board focus on what we are working so hard for and toward.

As a group we developed the following working Mission Statement:

The LMVC is a neighborhood club serving its members by providing social and recreational activities, events and opportunities.

We welcome thoughts, comments and questions from the membership on this statement as it is something that will continue to evolve and be refined as the club evolves over time.

After developing the working mission statement, we spent the remainder of the retreat developing priority lists for our short-term and long-term goals.

After much work, discussion, thought and brainstorming, the board agreed to the following short-term goals as those we would like to accomplish and work toward over the next 12 months:

Short-Term Goals (1-12 months)

  1. Increase membership by 15 (6 DONE)
  2. Have rentals
  3. Have fundraisers
  4. Pool deck refinish/epoxy
  5. BBQ pressure wash and paint (DONE)
  6. Rehab pool house (DONE)
  7. Increase rental fees
  8. Require insurance rider for all rentals by non-members
  9. Add tables and chairs
  10. Paint trim, fireplace and gate (DONE)
  11. Fix and paint white fence (IN PROCESS)
  12. Address dry rot in clubhouse

While these are not the only goals the board wishes to focus on this year, these have been identified as the highest priority in the short term. We welcome your input regarding these short-term goals or others that you would like to see us focus on in the next 12 months.

The board also agreed to prioritize the following long-term goals to accomplish after the above short-term goals:

Long-Terms Goals: (12+ months)

  1. Membership dues are sufficient to entirely pay operating costs
  2. Have a substantial financial reserve (1-2 years operating costs)
  3. Have money for improvements
  4. Add kid and adult picnic tables
  5. Replace pool heater
  6. Fix pool light
  7. Restart Wine Downs (JULY 2021)
  8. Add activities/classes for members (JULY 2021)
  9. Purchase tablecloths for member use during rentals
  10. Fix and replace all outside lights
  11. Address cracks in patio
  12. Repair courts

While these are not the only long-term goals the board wishes to focus on, these have been identified as the highest priorities at this time. We welcome any input from you regarding these long-term goals or others you would like us to focus on.

Dream List
We also started a Dream List of things we would like to see at the club. We will be adding to it. We would like to know what your dreams are for the club.

Future Planning
We plan to meet again to develop a business plan that will guide us to making the longer term projects and dreams a reality.

Please send your comments on the mission statement and your goals and dreams for the club to [email protected] or call or text 805.741.8084.

We are excited to share all of this information with you. We are energized and excited about the direction the club is heading and the help we've received from the members. We are working hard to effectuate positive change on behalf of all members.
